Taylor and I were suffering from a bit of cabin fever yesterday so, spur of the moment, ventured into West Hartford to shop around, grab some dinner and visit her aunt. A month or so ago, we met her family at The Cheese Cake Factory and were intrigued by the sushi restaurant next door. This time around we couldn’t walk by without trying it out.
Umi Sushi and Tapas was Connecticut’s first Kaiten, or “Conveyor Belt,” sushi restaurant. Its innovative serving provides a fun atmosphere and presents fresh, specialty rolls that are simply out of this world. How does it work? There are 4 different colored plates that indicate different pricing, as their logo illustrates. You simply take whatever you want from the conveyor belt, stacking up your plates in the meantime. When you are done with your meal, the waitress counts your plates and hands you the check!
My favorite? The Halloween Special (pictured above): eel and sweet potato topped with salmon and tobiko. To die for! I’m not lying when I say it melted in my mouth. If you’re ever in the Hartford area you have to check this place out. If you’re not from my neck of the woods, do a little research for Kaiten sushi restaurants in your area. It was a blast…and super tasty. What a treat!
Sprinkled with Love,
Lauren
